5 Day Combined Fundamental Module 1 Bushcraft Survival Course & Remote First Aid Casualty Care Course

This 5 day course is taught entirely outdoors in a wilderness environment and combines our 3 day Fundamental Module 1 Bushcraft Survival Course with a 2 Day (fully certified) Remote First Aid Casualty Care Course run by TACMED Australia. The two courses within this 5 day combined course are modularised so they can both be done separately, however you must have already completed the 3 Day Module 1 Bushcraft Survival Course in order to do the 2 Day Remote First Aid Casualty Care Course on its own.

In the first 3 days you will be taught the fundamental bushcraft and survival skills necessary for an emergency isolated situation. Core skills covered on the first 3 days of the course will concentrate mainly on modern skills and equipment, these skills include:

Survival priorities – Survival psychology – Essential equipment – Cutting tools and knife safety – Emergency shelter and insulation – Knots and cordage – Water procurement techniques – Modern fire lighting methods – Useful plants of the local area – Signalling for rescue – Introduction to natural navigation – Camp cooking – camp craft – reality based training scenarios

These subject areas will be taught separately then put together in a scenario based activity to test your knowledge and understanding on day 3.

Please see the Fundamental Module 1 Bushcraft Survival Course (3 Days) page for full details of this course including equipment and clothing lists.

You will then transition into the first aid casualty care component of the course (delivered by TACMED Australia) which combines remote area first aid and military prolonged field care.

This will target the key learning outcomes of being able to save a traumatically injured casualty from preventable causes of death in an austere and remote environment, understanding how to mitigate physiological stress, work safely in hazardous settings, package and move a patient and use improvised techniques to save a life when no equipment is available. You will be introduced to these concepts through a combination of theory, skill stations and immersive scenarios. You will be taken outside of your comfort zone and challenged both clinically and mentally.

Pre- Course: There is an online learning and assessment component (3-4 hours) that all enrolled students must have completed before the face to face component of the course starts. This will be emailed to you once you have enrolled.

This course includes the national accreditation requirements for HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation, HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support, HLTAID011 Provide First Aid and HLTAID013 Provide first aid in a remote or isolated site.

Please see the Remote First Aid Casualty Care Course (2 Days) page for full details of this course.
